EDUCATION

I had a great public school education. I am also self-educated. I like to think that my teachers taught me to teach myself. They certainly inspired me. We live in the information age. Theoretically, this should totally change education. Ultimately, everyone is responsible for their own education. It does not take money. It does take time and determination. No one can learn for you. It takes action on your part. If you want to learn something, there are more ways than ever to do it.

I like the idea of legislation that would make it illegal for employers to discriminate based on how a person got their education. It is convienent for employers to say "You have a law degree from Havard, you are qualified."

I'm not a supporter of free college education. We have an extremely high national debt to gross domestic product and we just passed tax cuts. Then the government shut down for three days. We are going to have to raise taxes and pay down the national debt before we can consider free education. Making sure Social Security is solvent also comes before free education in my book.
