WATER

I've been trying to determine how much water I use compared to normal for over a month now. The numbers are confusing. I'm going to sort this out once and for all here...

A typical American uses 88 gallons of water per day according to the EPA. That is 2,640 gallons per month.

My bill says I am using 10 CCFs every 3 months. 1 CCF = 748 gallons. My household uses 7,480 gallons every 3 months. Per month that is 2,493 gallons.

3 months times 2,640 gallons (typical American) is 7,920 gallons. There are two people in my household. That comes to 15,840 gallons every 3 months.

Conclusion

We use 2,493 gallons per month. Per person that is 1,246 gallons per month. The average is 2,640 gallons per month per person. We use 47% of average.

Again, these numbers are confusing. My last calculation of them was totally wrong. The EPA website says "The average American family uses more than 300 gallons of water per day at home." My two person household uses 83.1 gallons per day; less than half of the 88 gallons per person per day average. I wash my dishes by hand and take frequent long showers. I think I could be doing a lot better.
